The Personal Rule of Charles I by Kevin Sharpe

Aims to present an entirely fresh picture of Charles I and his annexation of power. Sharpe analyzes the personality, principles, and policies of a monarch who, after summoning more parliaments in his first year of rule than his predecessors had for a century, determined to govern without them.

Kevin Sharpe is a lecturer at Union Institute and University's Graduate College in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a fellow of Oxford University's Harris Manchester College and co-director of the Oxford Centre for Science and Spirit. He was born in New Zealand and now lives in Harrington Park, New Jersey, and Oxford, England.
