Picasso by Marie-Laure Bernadac
Picasso's name has become synonymous with creative genius, but who was he - a public figure who lived his life in the headlines, or a private person, unpredictable and filled with secrets? This intimate portrait traces his life from the early years in Spain through his long residence in Paris. In it we meet his friends and lovers and witness his rise from poverty to overwhelming worldwide recognition. Above all, he was an artist who, through constant experimentation, made an indelible mark on the 20th-century.From 1980 to 1992, Marie-Laure Bernadac was the curator of the Musee Picasso in Paris. She is the head curator of the Centre Georges Pompidou's Cabinet des Arts Graphiques du Musee National d'Art Moderne in Paris. Louise Bourgeois (Flammarion, 1996) is her first work, and she has contributed to other volumes on Louise Bourgeois, Picasso, Annette Messager, and Miro. For the Flammarion Contemporary books, the inventive Paris-based design firm M/M devised the unusual typefaces and hole-punch series design.
