Place by Allen Fisher
This was the first publication of the complete text (insofar as it can be contained within a set of covers) of Allen Fisher's 1970s project PLACE - including Place Book 1, Becoming, Stane and Unpolished Mirrors. It was published in 2005. This second edition (2016) has had slight corrections to errors but is otherwise the same book in the same cover design. PLACE was Allen Fisher's now somewhat legendary poetic project of the 1970s. Originally published over several years as a series of interconnecting books, virtually all of them now unobtainable, it incorporates influences from Blake, Olson, Pope, Wordsworth, Robert Kelly, Walter Benjamin, Jung, Dickens, Foucault, Wilhelm Reich, Marxism, the Situationists, conceptual art and researches in mythology, linguistics, psychology, mathematics, immunology, topography, zoology and much else - and yet remains unclassifiable.
Allen Fisher is a poet, painter, publisher, art historian, and performer associated with the British Poetry Revival. He is an emeritus professor of poetry and art at Manchester Metropolitan University and the author of several publications, including Sputtor, Gravity as a consequence of shape, and the seminal work Place.
