The Place of Lions by Eric Campbell

Stranded by a plane crash on the immense Serengeti Plain, 14-year-old Chris is the only person who can save his father and the pilot. As he sets out to find help, Chris is watched and followed by an aging solitary lion on a pilgrimage of his own. An ALA Best Book for Young Adults.

With the Sydney Morning Herald, Eric Campbell began his career as a journalist. He was hired as the ABC's Moscow correspondent in 1996 and spent the following seven years reporting on the former Soviet Union, Central Asia, the Balkans, and China. He's written for the 7:30 Report, Lateline, and Foreign Correspondent, among others. Eric was a nominee in the Australian Walkley Awards for his coverage of the war and humanitarian catastrophe in Kosovo, and he earned a New York Television Festival award for environmental reporting in 1999. His reporting on al-Qaeda in Afghanistan earned him a Logie for best news coverage in 2009.
