Babs Welch Hart, MDRT, CLTC, is president of The Hart Insurance Group, Inc.; a company built on the principles and ideals of service that she learned from her father, Stewart W. Welch, Jr., a veteran of the insurance industry. Welch is still serving clients and is at the office every weekday and often on Saturdays. In September of this year (2015) he will turn ninety-seven. Hart began her career 22 years ago when long-term care insurance was in its infancy and considers this insurance protection for families the most significant product to be introduced by the insurance industry in the last 40 years. Why 40 years? It has been over the last 40 years that we have evolved into a nation where two income families are the norm. There is not a caregiver at home to look after the needs of elderly parents. Because of career demands, siblings are spread out in different parts of the country which means care giving is done by long distance or by the sibling that lives nearby. Rising health care cost and shrinking government assistance have given birth to the need for long-term health care solutions. Babs Hart has published over 35 articles including an article published in Financial Planning Magazine. She contributed a regular column to The Business Ink for over three years, and has done numerous educational seminars for the general public. Hart serves in an advisory capacity to Financial Planners, Wealth Managers, CPA firms and attorneys on estate planning issues. She has developed a course approved by the State of Alabama on Long-term Health Care for continuing education credit. Hart has been a member of the International Association of Financial Planners (1998-1999) and served as its vice president for two consecutive years. In 1998, she was appointed by the governor of Alabama to the Alabama Women's Commission which studies issues important to women and makes recommendations to the legislature. She is a member of the Million dollar Round table which is the insurance industry's premier association that recognizes a high level of production and client service and represents less than 1% of the world's financial services professionals. Babs Hart lives with her husband, Robert, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. They have three adult children, Lauren, Robert III, and Olivia.
