Dr Valerie Capers received her early schooling at the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind and is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music. She is equally at home in jazz and classical idioms and as a performer appeared with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Wynton Marsalis, and Paquita D'Rivera. She is probably best known as an innovative educator.
