The Power is our era's The Handmaid's Tale. --Ron Charles, Washington Post
Novels based on premises like the one at the core of The Power can quickly become little more than thought experiments, but Alderman dodges this trap deftly -- her writing is beautiful, and her intelligence seems almost limitless. She also has a pitch-dark sense of humor that she wields perfectly. --Michael Schaub, NPR

**WINER OF THE 2017 BAILEYS WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION**

What would happen if women suddenly possessed a fierce new power?

In THE POWER, the world is a recognizable place: there's a rich Nigerian boy who lounges around the family pool; a foster kid whose religious parents hide their true nature; an ambitious American politician; a tough London girl from a tricky family. But then a vital new force takes root and flourishes, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power--they can cause agonizing pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world drastically resets.

From award-winning author Naomi Alderman, THE POWER is speculative fiction at its most ambitious and provocative, at once taking us on a thrilling journey to an alternate reality, and exposing our own world in bold and surprising ways.

Naomi Alderman has written four books. She won the Orange Award for New Writers in 2006, was nominated Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year in 2007, and was chosen one of Waterstones' 25 Writers for the Future in 2008. BBC Radio 4's Book at Bedtime has broadcast all of her novels. She was named to the prestigious Granta Best of Young British Writers list in 2013. She is based in London.

Noughts & Crosses is also being produced by the BBC, with Roc Nation (Jay-Z's entertainment firm) serving as executive music producer. Malorie received the Eleanor Farjeon Prize in 2005 for her outstanding contribution to the field of children's literature.

She was awarded an OBE in 2008 for her contributions to children's literature, and she served as the Children's Laureate from 2013 to 2015. He eventually grew up and went on to become an author. He's written several successful novels and screenplays, but it's YA literature that has allowed him to really enjoy the ideas and concepts he was experimenting with when making games.

Alex is a Norwich resident. Richelle Mead is the author of the Vampire Academy, Bloodlines, and Age of X series, which have all been bestselling. Her interest in fantasy and science fiction began when her father read her Greek mythology and her brothers forced her to watch Flash Gordon when she was a child.
