Gary Larson received the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year from the National Cartoonists Society in 1991 and 1994 for his work with The Far Side(R). In 1985 and 1987, the National Cartoonists Association named The Far Side(R) Best Syndicated Panel. The International Comics Salon awarded The Far Side(R) the Max and Moritz Award for Best International Comic Strip/Panel in 1993. Larson's animated feature Gary Larson's Tales from the Far Side(R) was named to Time magazine's Top 10 List for the Best Television of 1994 when it premiered as a prime-time Halloween special on the CBS TV network in October 1994. The Annecy International Festival in Annecy, France, awarded it the Grand Prize.
Gary Larson's Tales from the Far Side(R) II, his second animated picture, premiered in 1997 at the Telluride Film Festival in the United States and the Brussels and Venice International Film Festivals in Europe.
