
Bernie Mac (1957-2008) began his comic career with a weekly talent show on his front porch when he was eight years old. In 1990, he won the renowned Miller Lite Comedy Search and became a regular emcee at Chicago's legendary Cotton Club. He went on the road with the O'Jays, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and the Temptations, opening for them. In 1995, he presented HBO's Midnight Mac, a variety show that earned him a Cable ACE Award nomination. Mac appeared in The Players Club, Life, Ocean's Eleven, and Spike Lee's The Original Kings of Comedy, among other films. He was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Bernie Mac Show, a Fox Network sitcom.
