The Promise of the Child by Tom Toner
To call The Promise of the Child one of the most accomplished debuts of 2015 so far is to understate its weight--instead, let me moot that it is among the most significant works of science fiction released in recent years--Torcom
It is the year 1471.
There is a candidate for the Immortal throne in the Amaranthine Firmament's radically advanced post-human worlds: Aaron the Long-Life, the Pretender, a man who isn't quite a man.
An invention is created in the savage hominid kingdoms of the Prism Investiture, where life is short, cheap, and hazardous, and it becomes the Firmament's most carefully guarded secret.
Lycaste, a lovesick recluse who has been driven out for an horrific crime, must travel across the Provinces, battling the grotesques of an ancient, decadent society, in order to find salvation.
Sotiris, bereft of his sister and approaching old age, must repeat his twelve thousand years of life in order to stop the man bent on becoming Emperor.
Ghaldezuel, the Star-Knight, must pillage the Firmament's rarest treasure--an object the Pretender will go to any length to gain.
