Queens of the Tyne by Ken Smith

On 2nd October 1907, the Tyne's most famous passenger ship, the legendary Mauretania, left the river on her delivery voyage to Liverpool. "Queens of the Tyne" celebrates Mauretania's 100th birthday and looks back at some of the many other superb passenger liners built on the Tyne between 1888 and 1973, including Carpathia, heroic rescuer of the Titanic survivors.
Ken Smith is a maritime historian and author of several books on marine history of the Tyne. He is a sub-editor on The Jornal, Newcastle.
