Reading Hemingway's Winner Take Nothing by Mark Cirino
A line-by-line examination of a neglected collection of Hemingway short stories."Cirino and Vandagriff provide a history of the collection's reception and excellent historical context. The scholars they have assembled continue to provide critical receptions historical context, and add thoughtful annotations to each story. While the characters may win nothing, readers of this collection will open a scholar's treasure chest as they read again Hemingway's stories."—Larry Grimes, coauthor of Reading Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea
"It's wonderful to have Reading Hemingway's Winner Take Nothing joining the distinguished Reading Hemingway series. These stories, some neglected, have long needed the attention they now get and up-to-date interpretations. This volume does so with a series of distinguished Hemingway scholars." —Peter L. Hays, professor emeritus, University of California, Davis, and author of Teaching Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises and Fifty Years of Hemingway Criticism
