Reading the Bible Wisely by Richard Briggs

The first part of the book explores issues of biblical interpretation in connection with reading the Bible in three particular contexts - historical, literary and theological. The reader is helped by looking at specific passages in the light of these approaches. The second part considers specific doctrines about the Bible: its clarity, its inspiration and its authority, and asks what it means in practice to read the Bible as an inspired or as an authoritative text.
Dr Richard Briggs is BA Course Director and New Testament Lecturer at All Nations Chrisitan College, Ware, Hertfordshire. He combines enthusiasm for world mission with a keen interst in exploring the Bible as Christian Scripture and has written on both these themes: It's Been a Quiet Week in the Global Village (Triangle, 1999) and Be a Bible Expert in 137 Minutes in Interpreting the Bible (Scripture Union, 1988). He has most recently had published Words in Action (Continuum, 2001).
