The Author: Dr. Gabriel P. Weisberg is Professor of Art History at the University of Minnesota and was recently Regents Fellow at the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Dr. Weisberg has published widely on French art of the nineteenth century including The Realist Tradition: French Painting and Drawing, 1830-1900, Art Nouveau Bing, and currently Beyond Impressionism, The Naturalist Impulse. He has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and has served as a Member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey.
