The Reckoning by Charles Nicholl
In 1593 the controversial young playwright Christopher Marlowe was stabbed to death in a Deptford lodging-house. The circumstances were shady, the official account - a violent quarrel over a bill - has long been questioned. This is a story of the Elizabethan underworld.Charles Nicholl has written on history, biography, and travel, but as a literary detective, he combines all of these disciplines together. Christopher Marlowe, Arthur Rimbaud, and Leonardo da Vinci have all been discussed. He is a member of the Royal Society of Literature, a Hawthornden prize winner, and the winner of the James Tait Black prize for biography and the Crime Writers' Association's 'Gold Dagger' award. He has also taught in the United Kingdom, Italy, and the United States, and has presented documentary shows on television. He is a visiting Professor at Sussex University and resides in Lucchesia, Italy, with his wife and children.
