Georg Mandl studierte Physik und Mathematik an der Universitü¾†”¼t Wien und wurde zum Doktor der Philosophie promoviert. Die Stelle als theoretischer Physiker in Amsterdam war fü¾˜¶˜¼r ihn der Beginn einer fruchtbaren Forscherkarriere. Er wurde mit dem Aufbau einer Geomechanik-Strukturgeologie-Forschungsgruppe betraut, zudem habilitierte er sich Jahre spü¾†”¼ter zum Universitü¾†”¼tsdozenten fü¾˜¶˜¼r Geomechanik und wurde zum Honorarprofessor ernannt. Beinahe zwanzig Jahre dauerte seine Lehrtü¾†”¼tigkeit am Institut fü¾˜¶˜¼r Technische Geologie an der Technischen Universitü¾†”¼t Graz. 2002 wurde er mit dem Goldenen Doktordiplom geehrt.
