Rotting in the Bangkok Hilton by T M Hoy
Prison is a harsh enough place, but being a foreigner in a strange land, and this ordeal becomes a lot more horrifying. This book chronicles T M Hoy's descent into the madness, horror, and insanity provoked by South-East Asian prison life. It shows you through his eyes the bizarre events of daily life in Thai maximum security prisons.
T. M. Hoy was born and raised in Mountain View, California. He spent his younger years learning Latin and Greek from his grandfather, a biblical scholar. After extensive travel in Asia, he settled in Bangkok, and then Chiang Mai, located in Northern Thailand. While living there, he made a "tragic error in judgment" by not reporting a friend to the police for murder. In 1995, he was given a life sentence, and spent the next five-plus years between Chiang Mai Remand and Bang Kwang Prison. He was luckily given a treaty transfer and sent back to the states, where he finished his sentence at FCC Tucson in 2011. Hoy currently resides in Tucson, Arizona.
