Royal Encounters by Paul Ratcliffe

From official visits around the country to family weddings and from horse shows to ceremonial events, Royal Encounters has them all. The Queen, for instance, is seen at her most relaxed, and there are also images from the wedding of the Prince of Wales to the Duchess of Cornwall and visits by the minor royals. There is even Sarah, Duchess of York sat astride a police motorbike or at the checkout of a local supermarket! In Royal Encounters you will see the modern Royal Family at work and many of these photographs have never been seen before. Also included are some of Paul's anecdotes as he met the royal family across the country, often presenting them with copies of his photographs. Particularly poignant are those from the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Rather touchingly she once told Paul: 'I never get to keep your photographs - I always give them to my boys. They put them up next to their beds so they can remember who their mother is.'
Paul Ratcliffe has been photographing the Royal Family since the late 1980's and he's proven to be a popular figure behind the crash barriers, well known to many members of the Royal Family. Paul has had his work seen in other outlets: from commemorative china, postcards and first day covers to a tribute calendar to the late Diana Princess of Wales. His pictures have appeared worldwide and were even on the Official Website of the Queen as well as having donated images for charitable organizations. His first book of Royal Photographs was produced in 1993. He lives in Leeds.
