Gary Jones has spent the majority of his professional life in poor countries. He has worked in the private sector, universities, non-profit organizations, and United Nations agencies for more than thirty years, often in some of the world's most difficult places, in settings ranging from long-term stability to humanitarian crises. He has seen firsthand the toll that HIV takes, notably among important communities and, increasingly, among young people in urban slum environments, thanks to his direct experience largely in southern and eastern Africa. Gary has long advocated for the notion of a people-centered and multi-dimensional approach to HIV as the only way to achieve significant and long-term change in eradicating AIDS, as evidenced by a lifetime of advocacy. His interest in the study of dignity and humiliation stems from his belief in the power of communal resilience. Gary is a married father of three who currently resides in Australia.
