The Scarab's Secret by Nick Would

Khepri meets the Pharaoh, Prince of Egypt, for the first time one morning in the shadow of the temple walls, and a friendship springs up between them. When Khepri discovers a terrible trap in the Pharaoh's newly-built tomb designed to kill, he knows he must warn the Prince. But how, for Khepri is just a small scarab beetle who scuttles along floors, among roots and into baskets of figs. How Khepri saves the Pharaoh's life and receives the highest honour of all is hauntingly told and dramatically illustrated, along with a historical note, in an original tale of ancient Egypt.
Nick Would worked as a teacher before moving to London to write song lyrics and children's stories. In 1992 his song 'Greyclouds' released as a single and nominated for an award. He collaborated with artist Brian Grimwood on Grimwoods Tails. This was followed by The Book of Rhyming Stories. He is currently working on the third part of a trilogy. The Warrior and the Moon was his first book for Frances Lincoln. Christina Balit's first book for Frances Lincoln, Michael Morpurgo's Blodin the Beast, was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal; Ishtar and Tammuz was Commended for the Kate Greenaway Medal; and The Twelve Labours of Hercules received a Kate Greenaway nomination. Her next book, Jacqueline Mitton's Zoo in the Sky, was followed by Kingdom of the Sun, winner of the 2002 English Association Award, and Zodiac. Christina is both author and illustrator of Atlantis: The Legend of a Lost City, nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1999, and Escape from Pompeii.
