Scarecrows by Gregory Holyoake
This book is fully illustrated with the author's own photographs. Gregory Holyoake has researched and written probably the first book to include all aspects of the scarecrow from its role in primitive societies worldwide to twentieth-century literature, art, film and advertising. Gregory has dipped into the archives for further scarecrow images, and the result is an astonishingly well-documented and absorbing account of the myth, folklore and folk art which this subject represents.
Gregory Holyoake is an actor, writer and photographer who began his career as a journalist writing for The Observer sharing end pages with 'Peanuts'. Gregory has been a regular contributor to Country Life, Country Homes and Interiors, The Lady and This England. He has written a trio of Kentish histories: Wellington at Walmer, The Prefab Kid and Deal, Sad Smuggling Town. He has also published a book of photographs: Kent, the County in Colour.
