This is a personal history of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the United World Colleges (UWC), by educator Alec Peterson, who played a pioneering role in forming them. There are two new chapters providing updates on the progress of the IB and UWC and a list of all IB and UWC schools.
Alec D. Peterson (1908-1988) was Deputy Director of Psychological Warfare in Southeast Asia, Director-General of Information Services for the Federation of Malaya, Director of Education at Oxford University, and Director-General of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. His works include The Far East (1948), Educating Our Rulers (1957), The Future of Education (1968), and The International Baccalaureate (1972). He was awarded the Order of the British Empire and made an Honorary Doctor of Pedagogy by the University of Trieste. Foreword by Prince Charles, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Dr. Ian Hill, author of the new chapter on the IB, is the Deputy Director General of the International Baccalaureate Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland. David B. Sutcliffe, author of the new chapter on the UWC, is the Executive Director of the UWC international Secretariat, a member of the UWC Executive Board, and the Headmaster of the UWC of the Adriatic in Italy.
