Scottish Clans by Fiona Macdonald

Scotland: home of the clans. This entry in the popular Very Peculiar History series tells all about these close-knit groups, and their ancestry, myths, and legends.

All around the world, people of Scots heritage proudly claim their own clan membership, name, tartan, and ancestral home territory. To them and to others, the very mention of the word clan inspires dramatic, romantic, and cinematic images. This fascinating book delves into the history of Scottish clans: who they were, where they lived, how they fought and feasted, and how they struggled to survive in some of the least hospitable territory in Europe. It also explores the origins and backgrounds of key Scottish clan names, which have formed a part of the country's modern-day heritage. Packed with delightful and informative trivia, and illustrated with line drawings, Scottish Clans: A Very Peculiar History(TM) reveals all you need to know about Scotland and the Scots.
