Secondary Metabolites in Stress and Disease Management by Amrita Srivastava

Secondary Metabolites in Stress and Disease Management: A Natural Alternative details the sources and diversity of microbial and plant secondary metabolites, the methods used for their detection and extraction, their novel applications in disease management, and inclusion in mainstream therapy. Organized into three main sections, the book begins by discussing the potential of microbes, plants, microalgae, and cyanobacteria as valuable sources of secondary metabolites, their role and mechanisms of action in symbiotic and competitive interactions, extractions and purification strategies, and the means to maximize their production. The book goes on to explore the utility of secondary metabolites in mitigating plant stress and their therapeutic impact on human health management. With contributions from experts in the field, Secondary Metabolites in Stress and Disease Management is a useful interdisciplinary resource for researchers, professors, graduate and postgraduate students, and industry professionals studying applied microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and plant science.
Dr. Amrita Srivastava is currently and Assistant Pro in the Department of Life Sciences at the Central University of South Bihar, Gaya, India. She has a PhD in BioScience and over 11 years of teaching and research experience. She works in the field of microbial secondary metabolites, and her research focus lies in the extraction and purification of microbial secondary metabolite siderophore and its application. Her work includes establishment of antimicrobial and anticancer properties of secondary metabolites by elucidating the mechanism of their effect on plants, microbes, and cell lines. She has published 26 research and review articles in journals of international repute, edited 2 books and authored over 15 book chapters. Dr. Arun Kumar Mishra, PhD is currently as a Senior Professor at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. He has 28 years of teaching and research experience. He has specialization in cyanobacterial systematics, microbial physiology, stress signalling, genetics, and proteomics. His research area comprised of deciphering the fundamental metabolisms of cyanobacteria and the physiological and biochemical basis of stress tolerance among microbes. Additionally, he has also successfully deciphered the mechanism of organophosphate bioremediation by Fischerella sp. LMGA1. Furthermore, he has successfully accomplished research projects sponsored by eminent research agencies like Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, University Grant Commission and Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India. He has also edited a book on cyanobacteria entitled, Cyanobacteria: From Basic Sciences to Applications, published by Elsevier in the year 2019
