Selected Short Stories by Guy De Maupassant

A collection of the author's most characteristic stories portrays life in 19th-century France.

Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) was a prominent nineteenth-century French writer who is regarded as one of the fathers of the contemporary short story as well as one of the best exponents of the form. Many of the stories are set during the 1870s Franco-Prussian War, and several of them depict the futility of war and the innocent bystanders who become changed as a result of the struggle. He wrote over 300 short stories, six novels, three travel books, and one collection of poetry.
