Shade by Keith Wiley

A practical and inspirational guide to creating a natural and beautiful shady garden and/or what plants to grow in shady areas of the garden. The book is thematic in structure. The first part looks at shade - from dappled and partial to full and dense - in different situations, before considering shade in different sizes and types of gardens, as well as in specific areas within the garden such as hedges and other barriers, and vertical elements such as pergolas and arches. The second part considers the characteristics of shade-loving plants, looking at brightly coloured flowers as well as at plants with distinct types of foliage, and how to use these with plant companions to create striking designs. This book also looks at the practicalities of preparing, planting, and maintaining a shade garden. This book is completed by a comprehensive plant directory of shady plants.
