The West Coast main line, linking London Euston with Glasgow Central, is one of the most important railway routes in Britain. The author had a lifelong interest in railways and in 1967 he travelled north to photograph those last vestiges of steam at work in the Westmorland fells. Born and bred Lancashire man Tom Heavyside has had a lifelong interest in all aspects of railways. He has been photographing the railway scene since 1960 although it was not until 1967 that he travelled north to witness the last vestiges of steam at work in the Westmorland fells. He is the author of numerous books on railways as well as regularly contributing articles and photographs to various magazines. He continues to record the modern-day scene.
