A Short History of Society: The Making of the Modern World by Mary Evans
A Short History of Society is a concise account of the emergence of modern western society. It looks at how successive generations have understood and explained the world in which they lived, and examines significant events since the Enlightenment that have led to the development of society as we know it today.
Mary Evans is Professor of Sociology and Women's Studies at the University of Kent, Canterbury. Among her books are, 'Love: An Unromantic Discussion', (Polity 2002), 'Introducing Contemporary Feminist Thought', (Polity 1997), 'Real Bodies: A Sociological Introduction', (Palgrave 2002) and 'Killing Thinking: The Death of Universities', (Continuum 2005) We published Mary's book, 'Gender and Social Theory' in 2003 as part of our 'Theorising Society' series.
