Sister Genevieve by John Rae
Sister Genevieve was headmistress of a Catholic girls' comprehensive in a Republican stronghold in Belfast from the 1960s to 80s. This book is both a portrait of how a teacher can take children from a deprived background and give them new horizons, and a look at the human side of the Troubles.
John Rae has known Sister Genevieve since 1987. He was the distinguished headmaster of Westminster School from 1970 to 1986 and is an acclaimed novelist and historian.
