Sky Wards by Mary Mackie

Over eight eventful decades, from 1918 to 2000 and beyond, the RAF's own nursing service has tended the sick and wounded, developing unique skills in in-flight nursing. Now the fascinating story is revealed in this book.
Mary Mackie was born in Lincoln but, as an RAF wife, has experienced life in various places around Britain and in Europe. She is the author of over sixty books. Her non-fiction includes the best-selling Cobwebs and Cream Teas and Dry Rot and Daffodils, memoirs of life behind the scenes with the National Trust. Her contemporary suspense novels and historical sagas have been published worldwide, in many languages. She also writes articles on themes of history and writing, and is a much sought-after speaker and broadcaster. In the 1960s Mary Mackie served with the WRAF at RAF Waddington. There she met her husband who, during his long air force career, came under the care of the PMRAFNS at RAF hospitals St Athan, Glamorgan; Steamer Point, Aden; Nocton Hall, Lincolnshire; and Cosford, Shropshire. The Mackies currently live in West Norfolk.
