-- Tom Tolkien * School Reading List *"This is such a brilliant book for addressing lots of common childhood fears (quite a few of the fears on Stanley’s list resonate with my children)… It’s a gorgeous story with a wonderful message about overcoming your fears and worries and not being afraid to talk about them with your friends and family...
The illustrations are fabulous: superb sketches filled with vibrant colour and emotion which bring to life the way that Small Stanley is feeling throughout the pages of the story. A brilliant picture book about dealing with big emotions."
* Mini Travellers Magazine *"Angie Morgan’s mixed media illustrations are full of amusing details that both children and adults will appreciate... Her vibrant artwork really brings to life Stanley’s emotions, and the interconnectedness of the words and pictures works splendidly."
* Red Reading Hub *"The book is completely charming and is beautifully illustrated by the author... The story is uplifting as it ends and offers readers a short checklist to remind them that worries are completely normal and it’s most important to share them, no matter how big or small.
This story would be perfect to read in a Key Stage One or EYFS classroom; the message fits in well to PSHE themes around confidence or worry, as well as underpinning lessons around personal safety."
"The interplay between words and pictures in Small Stanley’s Big List of Scary Stuff works well. Different fonts are used to visually represent Small Stanley’s feelings and I can imagine children emulating these ideas when drawing or bookmaking... This book could be used for reading aloud or as part of PSHE provision in Early Years and KS1."
* Just Imagine *Angie Morgan was born in Bristol and trained in Graphic Design at Goldsmiths College, London, in the early 1970’s. Her previous picture books include Daisy’s Big Dig, Enormouse and the Shouty Arthur series as well as the hilarious Sedric books that she wrote for older children. Small Stanley’s BIG List of Scary Stuff was her first book for Otter-Barry Books, showing her acute and sympathetic understanding of young children. Her colourful and humorous illustrations are made up of scanned drawings which she colours in using Photoshop.
Angie gets her inspiration from all sorts of unlikely places, but mostly from her five grandchildren who make her laugh most of the time. She lives in Bath with her husband and a fluctuating number of chickens.
