
Social Psychology and Modernity by Johansson
Explores social psychological thinking in relation to contemporary society. The first part of this book contains an overview of different theorists and theoretical perspectives. The second part offers an in-depth view of key aspects of late-modern life, for example changes in gender identities, narcissism, and the cultivation of the perfect body.
Thomas Johansson has a degree in psychology, and a PhD in sociology. He works in the Institute of Social Psychology at the Polytechnic of Skovde, Sweden. In addition, since 1997 he has been Associate Professor for sociology at the Centre of Cultural Studies, University of Vaxjo. He has written extensively in the areas of youth culture, sociology of culture, social psychology, family studies, cultural studies, men's studies and the sociology of the body. He is author of The Sculptured Body: Gym Culture, Health and Aesthetics (1998), The Second Parent: Nonresidential Fathers and their Children (1999), with Lars-Erik Berg, and Psychoanalysis and Cultural Theory (1999).
