In the 1970s, Jeremiah Tower was the chef and co-owner of Berkeley's Chez Panisse restaurant and San Francisco's Stars restaurant. New American Classics, Tower's debut book, won the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding American Regional Cookbook in 1986. Tower won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in America in 1996. He is a Mexican citizen.
