Steel Town Cricketers by Steve Young
In the early 1870s, all roads led to Motherwell. The town needed skilled labour to work in the ironworks, and amongst the incomers was a bunch of blokes from Shropshire and Staffordshire who wanted to play cricket. That was the start of Motherwell Cricket Club. Founded by proper Steelmen.
Steve Young, Graham Robertson and their old cricketing pals started their love affair with Motherwell Cricket Club over 50 years ago. Their first literary venture was crafted in The New Century Bar, where the lads recalled stories of their playing days and shared their research, fuelled by Tennents lager. A well-oiled machine. Thankfully, someone remembered to take notes.
