Jane Urquhart is the author of four previous novels: The Whirlpool, which won France's prestigious Prix du Meilleur Livre Etranger when it was published there in 1992, Changing Heaven, Away, which won the Trillium Award in 1993 and was shortlisted for the International Impac Dublin Literary Award, and The Underpainter, winner of the prestigious Governor General's Award. She lives with her husband and their daughter in a small village in south-western Ontario.
