Stone Soup by Marcia Brown
Marcia Brown’s Caldecott Honor–winning, classic picture book—now available in an oversized classroom edition! When three hungry soldiers come marching down the road toward a small village, they are dismayed to see that the unhappy townspeople have hidden away all the food. There’s nothing left for the soldiers but stones, and in the battle of wits that follows, the soldiers must not only outsmart the villagers for a bite to eat, but also impart an important lesson.
The dancing, the laughter, the feast, and the vibrant, detailed illustrations ensure that children will return to this timeless story again and again.
Marcia Brown (1918–2015), one of the most honored illustrators in children’s literature, was a three-time Caldecott Medalist and six-time Caldecott Honor illustrator, as well as winner of the Children’s Literature Legacy Award (formerly known as the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award) for the body of her work. She lived in Laguna Hills, California.
