
Nancy Simpson has previously published two books of poetry, Night Student and Over Water. She has poetry in Prairie Schooner, The Georgia Review, and other literary magazines, and holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College. She recently published Echoes Over the Blue Ridge and edited Light in the Mountains: Tales, Essays, and Poetry by Writers Living in and Inspired by the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Southern Appalachian Poetry, a textbook published by McFarland Press, reproduced seven of her poems. She was awarded a North Carolina Arts Council Writing Scholarship for poetry in 1991.
She co-founded Netwest to help authors in the nine westernmost counties and the Qualla Boundary, and she has been a member of the North Carolina Writers Network for many years. She established the Clay County Arts Council's annual poetry contest for middle school, high school, and adult students. She has served as a Resident Writer at John C. Campbell for the past fifteen years, helping to create the Writing Program. Campbell Folk School is a folk school in Campbell, California.
