Tamarind and Saffron by Claudia Roden

This comprehensive cookbook has recipes drawn from many Middle Eastern countries, including Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Algeria and Iran for every occasion, from simple snacks or "mezze" to grand feasts. It also includes classics of Middle Eastern cuisine, little-known regional specialities, homely everyday foods and even special vegetarian dishes. The book is designed to complement Claudia Roden's "A Book of Middle Eastern Food", and should provide an introduction to Middle Eastern cookery for the general reader.

Claudia Roden is an anthropologist and cookbook author living in the United Kingdom. She was born in Cairo and went to school in both France and England. She has written a number of best-selling books, including the international award-winning The Book of Jewish Cuisine, and her bestselling cookbook, A Book of Middle Eastern Food, revolutionized Western ideas toward Middle Eastern cuisines in 1968. Roden has also presented BBC cookery shows and is the co-chair of the Oxford Symposium on Food and Cuisine, in addition to her literary work.
