Tanika Gupta: Political Plays by Tanika Gupta

One of the most consistently interesting and insightful playwrights working today, Political Plays shows an engagement with, and unravelling of, social conventions, gender stereotyping, and racial politics with a blistering wit. Plays includes Sugar Mummies, White Boy, Sanctuary and Gladiator Games, with an introduction by Aleks Sierz.
Raises fascinating questions about the differences between male and female sexuality and the relationship between the developed and the developing world * Independent on Sugar Mummies *
A dynamo of a play - an exuberant tragedy * Observer on White Boy *
I admire Gupta for using the stage to rub our noses in global reality * Guardian on Sanctuary *
A work of real political importance; painful to witness, but entirely essential * The Times on Gladiator Games *

Tanika Gupta has written for theatre, radio, film and television. She was the winner of both the John Whiting Award for her play The Waiting Room and the winner of the 2004 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre for Fragile Land/Hobson's Choice (2004). Tanika is an Honorary Fellow at Rose Bruford College and was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2008 for Services to Drama.
