Teaching Story Writing in Primary by Christopher Youles
Everything you need to teach story writing to primary pupils, packed full of effective, curriculum-aligned, classroom-ready resources and strategies
This book is the ideal solution for every primary teacher seeking to unleash the power of story writingIt is packed full of practical tips, worked examples and interesting ideas. * Alex Quigley, author of Why Learning Fails (And What To Do About It) *
A fantastic resource that will help you get the best out of your pupils. All teachers should read this – I cannot recommend this book highly enough. * Jenny Pearson, KS2 teacher and author of The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates *
A focus on the basics of a sentence-based model, the importance of modelling everything, telling our pupils ‘why’ and giving them the chance to apply what they’ve learnt, means Chris Youles has produced a terrific resource with ideas and prompts to support pupils’ story writing. * Mary Myatt, education author and speaker @MaryMyatt *
As a child (and sometimes even now) writing filled me with panic, so what I really like about Chris’ book is how it approaches writing from the POV of the child who is faced with the terror of the blank page. * Tom Palmer, children’s author @tompalmerauthor *
A fascinating and detailed look at the concept of ‘story’ in the curriculum. All too often, teachers are left to cobble together ideas, methods and strategies from various sources to tackle the teaching of story writing. Christopher Youles' book, however, presents a compendium of ideas and strategies to empower teachers and save time. Not everyone is an expert in storytelling, but Youles provides us with the perfect opportunity to improve. I wish I had this book when I started to teach. Filled to the brim with ideas. * Chris Curtis, Head of English at a secondary school in the Midlands @Xris32 *
This is a rich addition to the subject of story writing. * Pie Corbett, poet, storyteller and educational consultant @PieCorbett *
