This ECPR Classics edition includes a new introduction by Peter John placing this important, classic work in a current context. Born 1937, Jim Bulpitt studied Politics and History at the University of Exeter, followed by an MA in Politics at the University of Manchester. He helped found the Department of Politics at the University of Warwick, where he remained for thirty-four years, most of his academic career, becoming Professor of Politics in 1992. He died in 1999.
