Read examines the relationship between an ethics of performance, a politics of place and a poetics of the urban environment.Alan Read is a theatre professor at King's College in London, England. In the 1980s, he directed the Council of Europe Workshop on Theatre and Communities and Rotherhithe Theatre Workshop in the Docklands area of South East London, in the 1990s, he worked as a freelance writer in Barcelona and as Director of Lectures at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and from 1997 and 2003, he was the inaugural Professor of Theatre at Roehampton University and afterwards King's College London. Theatre & Daily Life: An Ethics of Performance (1993) and Theatre, Intimacy & Engagement: The Final Human Venue (2008) are two of his books. He was the first consultant editor for the journal Performance Research.
