Tampa Bay Hotel is a fairy tale castle anchored by the water's edge, and is a winter magnet for bankers and industrialists, stockbrokers and others. But the hotel has one permanent resident, the exotic Monsieur Goulet III, amateur phrenologist and wig-maker, who becomes entranced by the silver-blonde hair of a beautiful young widow, Marion Unger.
Catherine Chidgey was born in New Zealand in 1970. She is the author of In a Fishbone Church (1999), for which she received the Betty Trask Award, Golden Deeds (2000) and The Transformation (2005). Catherine Chidgey now lives in Dunedin
