Ibn Battuta was just 21 when he set out in 1325 from his native Tangier on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He did not return to Morocco for another 29 years, travelling instead through more than 40 countries on the modern map, covering 75,000 miles. This edition is with Tim Mackintosh-Smith.
Fourteenth century author Ibn Battutah is best known as an explorer and travel writer. His writings describe his extensive travels through most of the known Islamic world, from West Africa, Pakistan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and China.
