25 years studying the forests of Australasia, Central and South America, Africa and India, have resulted in this survey of the world's most valuable and endangered habitat. The nature of the forests and the ecosystems within them are defined, as are the threats and consequences of extinction.Arnold Newman, who was born in New York City in 1918, grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Miami Beach, Florida. He began his photographic career by working in portrait studios in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and West Palm Beach, as well as creating abstract and documentary pictures on his own. He was introduced to an experimental approach to portraiture championed by Alexey Brodovitch while associating with students at what was then known as the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts. In 1941, his art was discovered by Beaumont Newhall and Alfred Stieglitz, who gave him an show at the A.D.
