Two's Company by Catherine Storr
Kathy and Claire are two sisters working for their O and A level exams, who go away for a holiday to the Dordogne in France with their parents. By chance, they meet Val and Steve, two university students, who are on a working holiday in the same area. Mutual attractions develop which throw Claire and Steve together and Kathy, much to her surprised pleasure, finds herself partnered with Val. However, the early pleasures of these relationships disintegrate as the story progresses. In the end, the tragedy of the situation is that none of the relationships is satisfactory or happy, including the one between Val and Steve ... Catherine Storr's very real story has love and humour as well as tragedy, and every reader will be moved by it.
