Unconsidered Trifles by Mike Amos
A kaleidoscope of life in the North East in the last fifty years as seen by an award-winning journalist. . Hundreds of fascinating stories about people and places..... how Prince Harry secretly played cricket on the world's most improbable pitch.... why a prison football team was kicked out of the cup.... how a village football team played Juventus on a diet of crisps and pop....how the Queen Mother showed you should never believe what you read in the papers....how a pitman called Basher became a Hollywood star.... how to handle a bare-all encounter with a stripper...how a moors murder victim may have talked himself to death... Cricket, football, religion, safe-breakers, trains, villains and heroes, pubs, food. All North East life is there. It is also a hymn to the glory days of journalism - when regional papers reflected their readers' lives and concerns and journalists went out and found real stories. It was also a lot of fun...
Mike Amos was born and bred in Co. Durham and spent more than 55 years working there as a journalist, mainly on The Northern Echo. He won more than 40 national and regional awards, a place in the Provincial Newspapers Hall of Fame and an MBE for services to journalism.
