Under and Over the Snow by Jeffrey Zygmont

Under and Over the Snow is a warm and charming story, pleasantly illustrated, about five forest animals and their wise, friendly neighbor, the sheep farmer Grandmother Dori.

After an early snowstorm, the animals travel together to get advice about where to find food. Grandmother Dori teaches the moose, rabbit, bear, deer and porcupine that nature has already prepared them very well for winter.

Delightfully illustrated by watercolor paintings, Under and Over the Snow captivates young children with an engaging and adventurous tale. At the same time, it teaches them how some New England animals adapt to winter. Information about the forest animals was provided by wildlife biologists from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Free People Publishing, the publisher of>Under and Over the Snow, specializes in books that explore the New England experience. Children's books from Free People Publishing have a dual mission to both entertain and inform young people. While amusing and delighting children, the books also present accurate depictions of our natural world. And they convey constructive values and positive character trails, such as cooperation, generosity, gratitude and perseverance.

Morgan, Jeffrey: - As an artist, illustrator and muralist, Jeffrey K. Morgan works in acrylic, oil and watercolor paints to create compelling landscapes, street scenes and portraits. Jeffrey's pictures range from highly detailed and realistic, to impressionistic, folksy, or whimsical, depending on subject matter and the nature of his assignment. His illustrations for Under and Over the Snow are original watercolors. Jeffrey also is a private and group art instructor who has provided lessons to both adults and children for more than 25 years. Jeffrey's murals adorn both interior and exterior walls of homes, offices, commercial buildings and public facilities around the greater Boston area, and as far distant as Georgia in the southern United States and Missouri in the west. He operates from Haverhill, Massachusetts, north of Boston. He began his career as an artist immediately after high school. He has pursued it continuously for more than three decades. Jeffrey earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, studying there from 1988 to 1992. Jeffrey furthered his art studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, from 1992 until 1994. He describes his ongoing artistic journey by quoting the Twentieth Century artist Pablo Picasso: It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.
