Bruce Hoadley holds a bachelor's degree in forestry and a PhD in wood technology from Yale University. He is a former University of Massachusetts at Amherst professor of wood science and technology. Understanding Wood (The Taunton Press, 1980, 2000) and Identifying Wood (The Taunton Press, 1990) are two of his other books.
