Victorian Flower Gardens by Andrew Clayton-Payne
Picturesque tumbledown cottages, their gardens ablaze with roses, delphiniums and hollyhocks were the inspiration for a whole generation of artists. Their delightful works, accompanied here by notes on each painter and on the plants depicted, constitute a record of the flowers and features that characterized the Victorian English country garden.
Andrew Clayton-Payne was the Associate Director and Head of British Drawings and Watercolours at Christie's in London. He now runs his own company. He is author of the long-running best-seller Victorian Flower Gardens and is a regular contributor to magazines such as Collectors' Guide and Country Life.
